Award Season 2023

A whole host of literary awards open for nominations in the next few months. For your convenience, I have assembled a page of works available for nomination here!

You are also invited and encouraged to share my cute little graphic there via social media:

If you’re not familiar, here’s a little blurb about each of these:

  • BLISS STREET by C.Z. Tacks - first story of mine to ever win an award (thanks, SIWC!) Got a residency on the strength of this bad boy. Made myself sad about honeylocust trees while I was writing it. Inspired by a truly decrepit house in Melbourne that, despite actively rotting, sold for a cool $1MM. This is the story that made me take myself seriously as a writer. I talked about that some over here.

  • HIVE by C.Z. Tacks - dark academia, meet body horror. Mix vigorously and add my passion for fake citations and weird insects. I know just enough about ecology to know I’ve probably gotten something horribly wrong in here, but all the critters are ones I made up anyway, just to be safe. You can hear me read a portion of it on Narratives Library (scroll down; it’s ordered by author surname!)

  • BODY OF WORK, edited by C.Z. Tacks - Submissions for this anthology closed on 31 May 2023, and I launched the book on 30 September 2023. When I mentioned the timeline at the launch event, several people looked at me in open-mouthed horror; it turns out these were experienced anthology editors, who knew that four months is not nearly enough time to put an anthology together. Well, I did it anyway, and it came out pretty good! It’s available here, it’s getting rave reviews, and it’s full of weird body stuff.

  • GOING PROSE by A.D. Ellicott and C.Z. Tacks - something completely different! A podcast by myself and my dear friend. This is mostly an excuse for us to hang out and talk about our shared hobby on a regular basis. Started as a silly thing for our writing group, but enough people liked it that we decided to share it. Has a dedicated page.
